Yoseikan Aiki combines Mochizuki's family knowledge of Daito Ryu Jujutsu, pre-war Aikido, old-school Judo and a traditional school (koryu) called Gyokushin Ryu Jujutsu (based on sacrifice throws -sutemi waza-).
The concept of Aiki (合氣) translates into a set of ancient military, psychologic and -at times- esoteric tactics, first used in Kobudo (traditional Japanese weapons) centuries ago, especially in Kenjutsu and Iaido: the Art of the Sword.
Training in those armed arts is an excellent complement for understanding the core, principles and historical context of this class.
